crabbe, Now I understand the problem you and M have. Feral also is a synonym for wild.. I find it a better word to use when talking of domesticated animals that still maintain a strong percentage of the instincts bred into them that separate them from other breeds.....

The conventional wisdom is indeed as you say that the pets are not fully mentally matured as in they behave as children... They are definitely dependant but I dunno if that makes them children ....

At any rate it's semantics... I could say that my doggies are less far removed from their wild ancestry ... and be expressing the same idea.. Besides their overriding instincts are to herd... not grab unto with jaws that wil never let go...

Mirriam Webster appears to take the same view on feral as I do.. but that is really moot... now that understand the misunderstanding between our interpretations.. Then again they also give brutal as a synonym ;o)
