Mish, the only time IB is closed is between 12 and 12:30 am for system and account maintenance. The system is operational 24 hours a day, as long as a specific exchange is open. For example NIkkei futures do not open until 3 am which is kind of crazy, because that is after the japanese market is closed for the day, but that is the exchange issue. One can trade currency futures on CME Globex , the same system that trades e-mini sp's. IB is the best for trading gold on ECBOT either the mini 33 ounce or full size 100 ounce contracts at $1.61 per contract. I have been with IB for 4 years now and they are the best. Lowest cost, instant fills, great software, they even pay decent interest on cash balances and short sale balances as well. Withdrawing profits is a snap, place an order by 2 pm and the money is in your checking account by 7 pm. Nice feature is that you can switch your base account currency between $, pounds, euros, yen, swiss francs or even canadian or australian dollars.
