"If my perception is true I think its an unfortunate state of affairs." It is not. Auckland is definitely the city to live in in NZ. Your other comments are fair. Aussies are more open and more friendly than NZers, despite local beliefs. This country has a lot of good features, but, overall, the culture isn't one of them. I like Sydney, but my daughter tells me Melbourne is better.
