Agree, C-Ville and Ann Arbor are large compared to CH. I have only been to the former two once. I was also a little inebriated, so my memory is foggy. I was just trying to think of great collegetowns to live in.

two areas that kinda also have a Boulder flavor but are not
really that cheap anymore are Ashland Oregon and Flagstaff
Arizona. Both of these cities are college towns but the
colleges are not as well known.

As far as weather, yes Boulder is better than CH but than
again I think San Diego is better than Boulder (opinion). If I was selecting a college town and money was no object I would pick La Jolla (shores or farms), then Boulder. For those on limited budgets I'd pick CH out of what is left.

I haven't been to either Ashland or Flagstaff. I imagine Ashland has been overrun by Californians. I excepted places in California because it's too expensive. La Jolla in untouchable. Other great college towns in CA would be Santa B., Berkeley, and SLO. Santa Cruz, Palo Alto, and Chico might make the cut. All of these places have some proximity to geographic relief or water.

We had a long discussion about Burlington, VT. It's a great small city on the lake and near the mountains. Yes, the winters are long. You should visit. Its expense is probably somewhere between Boulder and CH.
