Huawei is booming and full of scientists, engineers and business people who want to make money, not protect the euronut GSM franchise. GSM should be rolled out in 450MHz to block CDMA450 which the slimy hagfish guild have realized is a serious competitive threat.

Huawei wants to have CDMA succeed because they don't have to pay a BIG royalty to QUALCOMM which the euronuts demand for GSM. The greedy and obstructive euronut GSM Guild charges a fortune while whining like a fleet of Koreans about QUALCOMM's derisory royalty for technology developed in breach of the laws of physics and which the GSM Guild said couldn't work, until they decided they invented it back in 1890, on which the courts didn't agree with them.

Huawei is going to produce lots and lots of low cost CDMA infrastructure and handheld devices and cause a big problem for the GSM Guild. Even with a 7% CDMA royalty, they'll be able to undercut the Nokians enabling 3G cute little high-powered devices to be made cheap enough to create huge demand for W-CDMA and CDMA2000 based devices. Such as the Apache msmobiles.com Billions of those will sell at the right price. They will kill GSM. Look at the tsunami of 3G gadgets being sold in Japan - the old TDMA networks are suddenly obsolete there. The same effect will happen everywhere at some price.
