Takes more work, but I've laddered mine so that something comes due every week. So you can start with 4 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and then repeat week after week. Of course you can store the bulk of it in 4 weeks initially as you go through this process.

I also think it is very importnt to do this directly with the US Treasury via Treasury Direct,
treasurydirect.gov
and not pay more commissions and fees to banks and brokers for this service.
