In a move designed to get cross-wise with Hershey, PA., Mayor Nagin has proclaimed NO a "chocolate city. It's inconceivable in his mind that a black majority not be in charge. And, by the way, it was also God's will that NO be punished. Oh, boy. He has no political sense at all. It's astonishing how so many otherwise intelligent African Americans fail to understand their own racism. Proof: Imagine the outcry if a prominent Caucasian politician declared Duluth, MN., a "white milk" city in which the majority of residents must be white because it is inconceivable that Duluth not be populated by a majority of Caucasians. Jesse Jackson and Farrakhan would descend immediately upon Duluth, bullhorns in hand. Invoking divine will as an excuse for governmental incompetence, including Nagin's own, I suppose absolves him and the rest of the folks who screwed up so badly. It's some comfort that this divine retribution seems to be color blind.
