AK, AMD is going through higher growth period so it is unfair to compare intel's options to profit ratio to AMD's. Options is part of the comp package that allowed AMD to attract talent to compete with Intel.

Assuming AMD granted the same "dollar value" of options in 2005 as they did in 2004, they'll still end up short, since AMD's profits in 2005 aren't 220% of their profits in 2004.

Perhaps AMD's profits in 2006 will finally be large enough to cover their options expense, but by then it will be moot, since AMD will likely hand out far fewer options than before thanks to mandatory expensing.
