MOSCOW, January 18 (RIA Novosti) - Some 4,000 facilities in Moscow will suffer power cuts in the next few days as extremely low temperatures hit the Russian capital, a senior Moscow official said Tuesday.
"Power supplies will be cut at about 4,000 facilities, including clothing and building markets and fast food stands," said Vladimir Malyshkov, the head of the Moscow consumer market and services department.
He said the measure was being imposed to reduce fire risks and that more than 40,000 facilities were consuming power in Moscow, where the temperature nearly broke the record of -32°C (-25.6°F).
"Nothing will happen if we cut power at some facilities," he said, expressing hope that the cold spell would end Sunday. |
