From what I've read by Hitchens, I despise him - but he's not a conservative (with large or small c). If anything, he's far-left, or was. Which makes him no less despicable. The only, key exception is his support for the Iraq war; and some following sycophancy and support for Bush (IMO because of some halo effect, whereby he couldn't bear to think that the leader of his chosen cause could be so thoroughly misguided or wrong). Maybe that's now wearing off...
