Ok, a few facts on SV:
1) FACT: SV is the leader in technological innovation, based on number of delivered innovative products and technologies, technical startups, and technology company IPOs.
2) FACT: SV is one of the most diverse areas of the nation.
3) FACT: SV is headquarters of most of the countries technology VC firms.
4) FACT: SV has the highest percentage of foreign born engineers and technologists.
5) FACT: SV is one of the most politically liberal areas of the country.
These ingredients, and more, make up the mechanism that allows the US to maintain its technological lead. However, many from other parts of the country scoff at some of the most vital of these components, which is why SV has not been replicated elsewhere. Sure, we've got bad aspects - traffic and housing prices - but overall, a great place to live, especially if you're a technologist.
People who label us as out of touch, a Republik, etc, still reap the technological benefits of SV, even as they ridicule. Many derive their livelihood on products and companies created here. I guess I shouldn't ridicule the WWF; I'm sure it provides great advantages to us all. |
