Sure, you can have gas for a dollar a gallon, if somebody will sell it to you from wherever it came from outside the US. But in the end you have to borrow money to pay the subsidies and the borrowing leads to currency collapse. That is why socialism was never going to work -- ultimately there is no free lunch, just an opportunity to pretend that you don't need your own lunch because you can always count on somebody else to share theirs. The US government can pretend whatever it likes -- but in the end their will be no freelubch for Americans.
