Intel is a chip set company. Initially, I did not expect any new phone from their booth. But their partner RV Tecnology limited showcased two prototype smartphones. The two models are not normal 3G or 2.5G phones. Rather, they use WLAN to achieve VoIP, and video streaming. The candy bar one uses Intel PXA 270 CPU and MS WinCE 5.0 OS (not WM5 smartphone). It comes with 2.2 inch TFT LCD display with QVGA resolution. The rotary camera supports to take up to 300k pixels pictures. Through 802.11b and g network, the phone can use VoIP to achieve voice call, and other email, browsing and multimedia streaming applications. 3G like video call can be done through WiFi network too. The specification of the clamsehll phone is almost the same as the bar type phone but it adds GSM triband and a megapixel camera. But no front camera for video call is a strange point. The representative from RV Technology said they are discussing the license with other mobile phone manufactuers, and hope the candy bar phone can be available in the market no latter than this year, and the clamshell one no latter then April next year. I dont know whether the two phones would finally comes to market, but I can sure that WLAN technology will widely use in mobile phone the coming future.
