Opinions from outside the US: Hi Mark, its nice to be having an American participate here. Do they teach you to be so naive in American business schools (humility is not something they teach you in America, for sure). You seem to be perfectly aware of the the crimes that America has committed but nevertheless seem to have a strange reservation in calling it a terrorist state. US can be held to be a terrorist state on the following 14 counts, at least.
1) For being the first and only country to have resorted to the use of weapons of mass destruction in two instances (once in Hiroshima and once is Nagasaki) 2) For having started a dubious and heinous war against Soveriegn nation at the pretext of dismantling weapons of mass destruction where there was not any. 3) Of contemplating to bomb an Independent News Channel for airing views not in conformity with American establishment. (Al Jazeera) 4) For people in its establishments assuming high offices, evading arrest under international war crime laws. (Donald Rumsfeld) 5) For blackmailing Belgium to shift NATO headquarters from Brussels if it ever tried to enforce law on US office bearers (Donald Rumsfeld). 6) For distorting intelligence, planting information, compromising identity secrecy of intelligence officials, all to justify a war, to get hold of Iraqi Oil. 7) For subjecting war detainees to worst ever kind of treatment and torture, sexual abuses, denigration of faith, and use of "Enhanced interrogation techniques" in numerous confinements like Abu-Gharib and Guantanamo. 8) For running covert gulags in Eastern Europe to hold detainees in clandestine manner without changes in total disregard of every civil and human right law and regulation. 9) For starting a war that does not have sanction of the United Nation. 10) For waiving and flouting the Geneva Convention for treatment to prisoners of war. 11) For commiting mass murders in indiscriminate fashion through the length and breadth of Iraq. 12) For issuing threats of armed intervention and dismantling democratically elected governments in sovereign nations which disrergard neocon ideologies. (Venezuela) 13) For handing over War Criminals to self-designed unsanctioned rustic and illegal tribunals instead of the International Criminal Court which has jurisdiction of such crimes. 14) For continuing to use unacceptable and highly questionable ammunitions made of Depleted Uranium scientifically proven of having radiation effects.
I'm sure you your countrymen were serious enough, they could hold the current administration guilty of more crimes like giving false representations before congress, perjury, exposing identity of clandestine CIA operatives, etc.
Actually the problem with the American public is their lack of will to admit the truth. Just like you said, you know it all but don't believe that US is a terrorist state. Its this terrible hard-nosed obtrusive arrogance which most Americans are made to believe is patriotism. In truth it an extremely dangerous brand of Western fundamentalism.
Finally, it hardly makes a difference, who you voted for, or whether you prefers the Democrats or Republicans and long as Americans collectively stand responsible for backing an Administration which can be so brazen in its ubiquitous illegal adventures.
