There is no reason to continue trading stocks on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. NASDAQ and other electronic markets have proven that there is no need for a floor. The New York Stock Exchange floor exists out of tradition and reluctance to change, rather than any practical necessity. So, essentially stock trading could occur anywhere besides New York and has for many years via the NASDAQ market.
