Thread (mostly EPS contest entrants), looking for some comments/votes on the latter portion of this post...

Re: When do you open Early Forecasts for Q1?

As soon as I can after this one is finished. I need to change over a couple things and figure out what to do about Spansion.

I'm going to make it so that Early FOrecast entries automatically rollover into Mid-Quarter Forecasts, and the same for Mid-Q into End-of-Q. I think I'm also going to run the forecast entry windows a bit shorter, perhaps only a week. The reason we did 2 weeks or longer was to allow discussion, but since that never really took place I think the shorter the better (at least for the forecasts).

As for Spansion/flash category changes, I have boiled it down to 2 possibilities for this quarter:

1) KEEP SPANSION: Keep everything basically the same as now, simply specifying the AMD flash revenue category as 100% of Spansion's revenue. (Although AMD's Total revenue would not include Spansion this time.) This is by far the simplest as far as the website, but flash is not really all that interesting to AMD longs anymore...

2) SWITCH TO CPU PROFIT: Keep every category the same except replace the flash categories for both companies with the respective total CPU profit/loss. In a way this category would sort of be a 'clean' version of the EPS - without all the other baggage that gets thrown in to the real EPS. Way back when we had Intel's MP profit as a category, and as I recall it was a tough number to estimate. (I think it was an alternative category to AMD's CPU units category since Intel didn't report units back then.)

Thoughts and/or votes?

Regards,

JJ

P.S. TGP, where was your early forecast this quarter? BTW, thanks for your kind words.
