The here and now is that Republicans is Congress must choose between the past and the future. The post of Majority Leader is open, and the three candidates each bring an interesting mix of past and future. One wants to keep the policies of the immediate past. another is related less closely to those policies. The third claims to be motivated to go back to the policies of the past that won Republicans the majority, and reverse the drift towards the abuse of political power that earned Democrats enmity.

Which part of the past are we interested in bringing to the here and now?
