You made some good points in the china argument about Mao. The nationalists were too corrupt to rule but my point was the communists did not have to be so brutal. I, for one, was shocked when the comparative mass murder numbers came out a few years ago and showed more deaths at the hands of Mao than of either Hitler or Stalin. So it is really hard to say nice things about them. They have now morphed into sort of a crypto-fascist-capitalist form of communism. (g) Taiwan on the other hand morphed into a democracy and other countries in asia have found better paths to economic success than china under Mao.
