who are trying to sell, all a mess really.

Russ,

The key in this business is sales. That is what banks are looking at. This is a very primitive (net profit margin for CTS is 7%) industry, so 10%-30% drop in revenue kills at least 50% of the players. When housing goes the rental market will follow. Remember there is only one end user regardless whether he/she lives in rental or owner occupied. It is still one housing stock. In aggregate (rental + owner) it is way overbuild. The collapsing house prices will be followed by crashing rents. Supply and demand.
