Many times the people that are good in start-up mode are unhappy in corporate mode. Especially talented people, who can be unique in their personalities.
This is exactly the case with one of the individuals....Lets just call him Tony (The Cisco-ers will know who I'm talking about). Another was Dave. Tony is more Firmware than anything else. Dave is routing protocol expert. He is the "father" of Cisco's EIGRP. Both very tallented. There are others as well.

Lead engineers? In what disciplines?

At the level these guys are at it seems that one
had better concentrate on a very narrow set of technologies

They are specialists in their areas.

Tony was I am told, very focused.
And very generous to the company with his time.

So, is Juniper to be a one-trick wonder? From this and the normal FUD it is starting to sound like it.
A curiosity at the moment. I would hope that they have marketeers and visionaries that are equal to their technical tallent.

Customers really DO want (yes I am going to say it) "end-to-end solutions".
Those companies with suppior technology in a nich get bought for a nice premium. You could look at it that way. I am.

I think of it this way...Having a really fast wheel-bearing (Juniper switch)doesn't help me when I want to go shopping or deliver product, or build my network.

I need a whole vehicle.
I could'nt agree more.

Cisco can provide that. I am hard-pressed to name any others that can, especially not a conglomeration of dog-eat-dog competitors as have backed Juniper in a last ditch effor to "Stop Cisco".
Again, good technology gets noticed, and will most likely be bought before they have a real product line.

BTW: Absolutely "Killer" graphic in your profile! How long did it take and who was the ingeneous person that did it? Also it is nice to see people that have their priorities straight, take good care of them.
It's my GIF. I made it. It took about a week, a couple of hours a day. The idea is based in part to an old Microsoft/Apple GIF I saw. That credit goes to someone else.

regards, PRB
