Hoover was a rugged individualist. He thought raising tax rates would increase revenue and balance the buget. The economy was too weak and it didn't work.
I thought the public works prodjects came later under Roosevelt along with social projects like Social Security.

RE:" So, even in the current deflation, we should see increased taxation and interest rates - the repeat of same mistakes as in 1930s"

What deflation?

OTOH, I figure one reason AG and Bush have been pumping and tax breakin' since Y2k and 9/11 is that they don't want to repeat the mistakes on the great depression.

One freaky thing is that the gulf of wealth distribution between the rich and poor was huge back in the '20's which is where we've been heading in the last 5 years with regard to tax favored asset appreciation in real estate.
