Motorola Signs Contract With EarthLink to Provide Wireless Equipment for Wi-Fi Network Projects January 19, 2006 - 12:14:41 ATLANTA (AP) - Internet service provider EarthLink Inc. said Thursday it signed a contract with Motorola Inc. under which the cell phone maker would provide wireless equipment and related services for the initial five cities where EarthLink will set-up municipal wireless fidelity, or Wi-Fi, broadband Internet access networks. EarthLink has been selected as the operator in two markets, Philadelphia and Anaheim, Calif. Motorola will install network equipment, supplied by Tropos Networks and from its own product lineup, on city light poles to form a "wireless mesh" that allows consumers to connect to the Internet from anywhere within the network.
