The monetarists are not saying that the money supply has an impact on inflation, they are saying that money supply "is" inflation. Does money supply play a role in my view? YES! But a role in what? A role in determining prices.

When a person (I am thinking of Mish here) says that prices don't matter, only money supply matters, that person is practicing faith-based montary religion and it has nothing to do with inflation and deflation.
