Although I haven't used Skype, I know of several friends and relatives that do and everyone seems to like it.

As a Ham Radio Operator myself, we have had this sort of capability for years in many different forms. One of the things that has been around for years was making a long distance phone call at the price of a local phone call via amateur radio (even international when permitted by the destination country) and it was perfectly legal. I once did a phone patch from Los Angeles for a scientist in Antarctica and his wife in California. It was a local phone call...

We've had SSTV for years as well. Now its progressed into the computer arena and the most recent thing and it sounds interesting is going to be the new Suitsat (a decomissioned russian space suit that will become a Ham Station of sorts and be separate in space from the ISS) -- I heard about this from the World Radio magazine ( wr6wr.com ) this month. Nowadays, my morse is rusty as I don't use it a whole lot anymore...

Anyways, I digress. Skype from what I have heard first hand is cheap and a great way to talk to people all around the world. I think Ebay got smart picking this up. (I'm not happy about what they paid for it though).
