NORTH AMERICAN SEMICONDUCTOR EQUIPMENT INDUSTRY POSTS DECEMBER 2005 BOOK-TO-BILL RATIO OF 0.96

<<SAN JOSE, Calif., January 19, 2005 -- North American-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted $1.14 billion in orders in December 2005 (three-month average basis) and a book-to-bill ratio of 0.96 according to the December 2005 Book-to-Bill Report published today by SEMI. A book-to-bill of 0.96 means that $96 worth of orders were received for every $100 of product billed for the month.

The three-month average of worldwide bookings in December 2005 was $1.14 billion. The bookings figure is just under five percent higher than the final November 2005 level of $1.09 billion and seven percent below the $1.24 billion in orders posted in December 2004.

The three-month average of worldwide billings in December 2005 was $1.19 billion. The billings figure is about half of a percent above the final November 2005 level of $1.18 billion and 10 percent below the December 2004 billings level of $1.32 billion.

"Bookings for North American-based semiconductor equipment providers continue to show strength for a third consecutive month," said Stanley T. Myers, president and CEO of SEMI. "The positive momentum reflects growing confidence in the industry and indicates a positive outlook for the year ahead."

The SEMI book-to-bill is a ratio of three-month moving averages of worldwide bookings and billings for North American-based semiconductor equipment manufacturers. Billings and bookings figures are in millions of U.S. dollars.>>
