OT-G, I use my laptop always plugged in. Power consumption and battery life depend upon what you are using the system for. Using the DVD/CD and running a bright intensity screen seriously affect battery longevity. Of course serious CPU and graphics usage also has a significant impact. There are benchmark tests that perform comparisons of various hardware configurations under idealized test conditions....check this out: reviews-zdnet.com.com consumerreports.org
