OT *** laptop processor vs power consumption

I'm looking at cheap laptops but would like to avoid those with the battery running empty after 1 1/2 hours. Have not found a source for this. Some manufacturers give battery time, most don't.

No, the backlit LCD is. This guy posted a link which has a pie chart from Intel at the top of page 7 showing the power budget for a typical laptop:

The display is 33% and the CPU plus memory controller is 19%. The hard drive is given as 8%, but if you get one of the faster ones (which is nice), it's probably more.

Is there a table somewhere comparing processor power consumption?

Off the top of my head, AMD Turions with integrated memory controller are either 25W (MT series) or 35W (ML series). The Intel Pentium M (included in Centrino) takes 27W, but doesn't include the memory controller. I'm not sure about the Core Duo in the new Mac--it's probably comparable to a Pentium M, except that it has two 32-bit processors. All of these models are fairly comparable in power consumption. Avoid Mobile Athlon 64 and Pentium 4. Not sure about the power consumption of AMD's Sempron or processors from Via.
