I agree completely. We need to do a "Manhattan Project" for alternative energy sources pronto. If this whole "peak oil" theory turns out to be true, and we end up competing for a rapidly-dwindling oil supply with a few billion off-roading Chinese, we Jeep owners will finally get what's coming to us.

Speaking of which, I just last week traded in my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland for a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. Got a good price on it because they're both expensive to operate and politically incorrect in L.A. these days. N-I-C-E vehicle. It has a 5.7L Hemi with 330hp and enough torque to drag the moon out of orbit if you ever actually lock up the transfer case, which I probably never will. I love it.

When I got it home I was looking at the little EPA "pollution meter" diagram in the upper right corner of the window sticker, which indicates how much pollution this model puts out compared to the average in its class.

It reminded me of the old "This Is Spinal Tap" joke...I know ten is the maximum, but this one goes to eleven.

EDIT: My one complaint about that car is that the gas tank is too small. It really does subjectively seem like it only holds enough gas to get from home to the gas station and back.
