There are objective ways to be fair.

Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. You will never find a consensus on an "objective" protocol for fairness. You can do it for narrow areas. We generally accept that first come first served is fair in certain venues, for example, or that share equally works in others. But even with those there are some who want exceptions. A tax system is just too broad an area and the factions too many.

I recall a discussion by Ann Landers a long time ago about handicapped stalls in rest rooms. There were people who insisted that, no matter how long the lines, non-handicapped people should not use them, that they should be left empty until a handicapped person came along. Others found it unfair to make people wait when a stall was available. It was a knock-down-drag-out fight...

Nope, there are no objective criteria. Of this I am sure.

But, I'd be interested in hearing what you think they might be.
