Perhaps, perhaps not, we'll never know for sure.

However, with a Democratic president, Greenspan's opinion was always in favor of paying down the accumulated debt of the US Government. When the occupant of the Oval Office changed, so did his advice. I believe that without Greenspan's implicit backing for the tax cuts, they would not have occurred.

I do agree that on both sides of the aisle the "quality" of those currently holding offices in our Congress appears to be equally without fiscal restraint. However, I've seen lots of Congresses over my lifetime and the current one has the tightest Party reigns on power and is the greediest I've ever seen.

I personally believe they should all be thrown out at the earliest opportunity. Damn few seem to remember that America is not a place, it is an idea.
