It's a good quote, but I don't think a smoker has any right applying it to smoking.

Which is why I posted just the quote, which I love, and not the article.

I don't want the government interfering in areas where people are basically killing themselves, by themselves- for example smoke at home, drink at home (or in bars if you aren't driving)

You could apply that logic to bars and restaurants, just as well. You could have smoking and non-smoking establishments or sections and people could choose. I don't tolerate smoke at all, but I can't justify banning smoking in all public places. I don't want my options at the cost of government interference into personal decisions. Facilities where there is no opportunity for choice such as office buildings, stadiums, and malls should not allow smoking other than in separately ventilated areas, but where there are choices, such as between bars, regulation seems too intrusive to me.
