Ok Len.. Let's say that Perkins is being truthful about his claimed nefarious activities in Panama..

What was the end result of all of this activity? Was Manuel Noriega what we Schultz was hoping to achieve? And why wasn't there a "sea-level" canal built across the Isthmus? We obviously had an interest in making that happen.

And why has Hutchinson-Whampoa been permitted to take over control of the Canal, when the Japanese would have been a far preferable option?

Thus, Perkins might have liked to think of himself as an economic "hit man", but I think it's more a grandiose sense of self-worth aimed at selling books.

But can I say it's a ludicrous possibility? Heck no.. Like I said.. Power and Money makes the decisions, regardless of whether you're American, Chinese, Panamanian, or Japanese..

But it's pretty far fetched and the results don't seem to match the scenario that Perkins is painting.

Maybe there were even more powerful entities than George Schultz involved in deciding the fate of the Canal.
