What's the difference in the gun murder rate, overall murder rate, and non-gun murder rate?

I believe the US's non-gun murder rate is higher than the UK's, despite the fact that guns are more easily available in the US.

Maybe something about the US's culture, economy, demographics, policing methods, or some other factor other than guns, makes Americans more likely to kill.

56% of the American gun deaths were from suicides. They may well have killed themselves with another method if guns where hard to find (assuming gun control would actually make it difficult to get guns), and the sucide rate is highly variable in different countries and it doesn't closely follow the gun possestion rate or the number of guns per capita. Japan for example has a high suicide rate despite a low number of guns per capita.

Also the figure doesn't break down how many of the gun deaths are deaths of violent criminals (or would be violent criminals in self defense). For example if a serial rapist was killed by a would be victim with a gun, it would count as a gun death in the stats you present but IMO it would not be a bad thing (at least considering the alternative).

As for accidental deaths if their are more guns its not surprising that the number of accidents with guns also goes up. You would expect the same in terms of car accidents when comparing countries with a very different number of cars.
