I've also had major problems with E-Trade. In addition to frequent delays due to system crashes and slowdowns, unresponsive customer service, etc, I recently had a real bad experience when they sold securities I no longer had in my account, converting my stop-loss order into a short sell order!

Their trading system sucks, their trade notification system is inadequate, and their typical response to problems is to stonewall.

I hope this class action suit gathers steam.
