I wasn't using Arlington as a proxy for VA at all. Or really using it as a proxy for anything. I was using the comparison between Arlington and DC to show how their are many other factors other then gun control that determine the level of homicides or firearm related deaths. In further contrast to Washington, Arlington has a no-nonsense, law-and-order criminal justice system and it's demographics are different from both DC and most of Virginia. Exactly the types of differences I was trying to point out, except I didn't provide the specifics. I'm not sure of the utility of comparing the US and GB, either. We have a culture of guns here. They have none there. Even if we started controlling guns here today, we'd never be like them. The many other criteria the two countries have in common combined don't trump that cultural history, IMO. I guess we are in agreement than. Tim
