I can see that you think the problems from 50 years ago were exagerated.

No, I don't see that at all. I know what it was like. I wonder why you would think otherwise.

I do think times have changed. One of the great questions of our time is how much they've changed. We really have no way to monitor that. Polls don't work. Anecdotal evidence doesn't work. IMO, you'd see such signs on way fewer than one percent of establishments and only on mom-and-pops.

The problem fifty years ago was that folks couldn't find a place to stay when they took a road trip or restaurants to serve them. Motels and restaurants were all mom-and-pops. Now we have big chain motels and restaurants. Do you really think they would discriminate? The risk of running into an all-white hotel or restaurant along the interstate would be infinitesimal. And all the places that do discriminate would be labeled so folks wouldn't have any unfortunate surprises.

I think it would be good to let folks show their hands so we would know for sure who's who and what's what. Then we could make informed decisions about what discrimination laws are appropriate for our times.
