Perhaps you live in a sheltered area and don't see the many ongoing attempts to discriminate. Take for instance my own state of Texas where the legislature fell all over itself to ban gays from forming some sort of union even though poll after poll shows that most people here don't care doodly-squat about the issue. That relentless miniority keeps badgering them like a kid on the candy isle.
