I think when you're barring people from service because of the color of their skin, or their sex, or a disability, it's very hard to defend allowing that- even if you "prefer" the hate out in the open. Those are things people quite obviously can't change. But that's me. People's preferences will differ. I don't give a crap if the checker at the super market hates me because of the color of my skin- I just want to be able to buy the milk. Preferring to let them close the store to people of your race, just because they don't like you, seems absolutely nuts to me.

I used to think it was better out in the open. But encouraging people to act on their hate, just makes other people think it's ok. It gives obvious reiforcement to their positions. Not such a good idea, I think now.
