Israel is not going to strike Iran alone, if for no other reason than they would have to fly over Iraqi airspace and the United States would have to cooperate in any case. Since the US would be implicated anyway, it makes more sense for the US to act, if it decides that action is necessary.

But I doubt the US will strike. Building nukes seems to be a winning political issue for Ahmedinijad; the Iranians are more proud of Iranian power than they are scared to have it in the hands of the current government. Attacking Iran would make the population rally round the flag, I think.

So I forsee a kind of Cold War relation with Iran.
