What I would really like to see is a show analyzing that phenomenon. The American Idol hopefulls go through local screenings before they get anywhere near a TV camera. One such screening was profiled in our paper. Those who sing terribly, bad enough to make you laugh, are selected just as much as those with recording contracts in their future. It is a ruse for the audience to make them think "I could do that" and therefore buy into the premise. TP
