Barclays's Robert Diamond Comments on Commodities Investments 2006-01-26 04:19 (New York)
By Guy Collins and Saijel Kishan Jan. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Robert Diamond, president of Barclays Plc, comments on the growth of commodities investing. He spoke today in an interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Pension funds and other money mangers are investing as much 10 percent of their portfolios in commodities, said Diamond. ``Two, three, four, five years ago, we would have seen that with the hedge funds, but not the big state pension funds,'' he said. ``We are seeing an asset class shift.'' Investments in funds tracking commodity indexes may rise 38 percent this year to $110 billion as money managers diversify from stocks and bonds, according to Barclays Capital.
