LBTH, I flushed the DNS cache several times. The problem persists. I can access yahoo news with their numeric address, but not by clicking on the headline of a story in Yahoo. Thanks for your suggestion. A few months ago Comcast had DNS problems that made the news and lasted several days for some customers.

I called Comcast and talked to Eric. I did a tracert on news.yahoo.com [first hop timed out and then several others did. It gave up after 30 hops]

Eric wrote it up and will hand it off to others to investigate, even though he thought it was a yahoo problem.
