Delphi Projects Growth of Knowledge Management Applications & Markets in New
Research Service

Summary:
New Delphi research, published in the Delphi Insight Series on Knowledge
Management, predicts spectacular growth in corporate application of knowledge
management over the next three years. The number of corporations investing in
knowledge management practices and technologies is likely to increase by 79%
in the next year alone.

Opinion:
Delphi's research shows that knowledge management is making significant
inroads into corporations, with almost all companies surveyed claiming to have
plans to initiate knowledge management efforts. While 28% of the respondents
to Delphi's survey claim to have some form of knowledge management solution in
place already, this figure is expected to leap 79% to 50% within the next year
alone

The startling growth rate of knowledge management has significant implications
not only for companies which are able to provide knowledge management products
and services, but also for the economy as a whole. If knowledge management
becomes ubiquitous across entire industries, it will move quickly from being a
tool for strategic advantage to becoming a requirement for industry
competitiveness.

Not only can we expect to see enormous growth in the size of the knowledge
management market, but the nature of knowledge management solutions will also
evolve. Most knowledge management investment today is aimed at providing some
order to the information glut in organizations. But Delphi research results
show that respondents who viewed knowledge management more strategically see
it as a critical enabler for innovation. Knowledge management solutions which
enable the creation and sharing of corporate knowledge, especially in its more
tacit, experiential forms, are likely to play a far more prominent role in the
future.

Such tools and practices are still some way off. Delphi's new Knowledge
Management Insight Series research service has begun monitoring a set of over
50 software solutions to create a baseline for tracking the evolution of
knowledge management functionality.

The initial offerings in Delphi's Knowledge Management Insight Series include
three volumes:

The Delphi Report on Knowledge Management - In Perspective
The Delphi Report on Knowledge Management - User Survey
The Delphi Report on Knowledge Management - Software Supplement

These provide respectively: a high level perspective on knowledge management,
including Delphi's definition of the terms and a practical approach to
evaluating knowledge management functions and technologies; a presentation of
Delphi's knowledge management market research; and a supplement documenting
today's knowledge management software solutions.

Details:
The volumes of the Delphi Report on Knowledge Management are the first release
of Delphi's recently announced Insight Series on Knowledge Management. This
series, and its companion volumes on Document Management, Workflow and Text
Search & Retrieval are available on a subscription basis. Contact Delphi
Client Services at (617) 247-1025 for more information.
