It would have been nice if all the American based search giants had gotten together and said "we will censor no informaiton", use our search, or create your own. Something tells me freedom of information would have won either way.

Now the question is, will a smaller player such as Dogpile go the opposite route in regard to China, and by doing so eat away at Google's core business. Anyone who thinks in this day and age information can be kept out of the hands of a billion people is deluding themselves. What are they going to do, censor internet phones too?

China will grow up one day and become an enlightened democracy. These latest desperate actions by their dictatorial rulers is just a symptom of their fear.

It's a shame Google appears to have capitulated so completely. However, they may have a strategy, which we'll only see down the road.
