It would be a very hard case to make that John Kerry is "far left".

In terms of the American political spectrum it wouldn't. Just look at his voting record. He is more left than Bush is right.

Good heavens. Gore helped start the DLC

Which is part of the reason I said "Gore at times projected a centrist image, and at times has acted like a centrist".

He has been all over the place from centrist/moderate, to far left. (Again in the specific narrower spectrum that I have been talking about. Its not like he is communist or something like that.)

I hardly think caring about the environment qualifies as a "leftie"

Taking environmental concerns to an extreme would suggest that someone is on the far left of American politics. "Earth in the Balance" does that. Also environmental concerns aren't the only area where he has made statements that are clearly on the left side of American politics. I suppose overall its inaccurate to call him far left. He has at times taken positions on the left but he hasn't consistently stayed there. The situation is somewhat similar with Kerry although Gore may have moved around even more. "Occasionally on the far left" might be true, but just calling him far left implies that he is consistently on the far left, or that at this moment he is clearly on the far left. I don't think either of those are really true about Gore, although he has moved to the left in recent years.
