Jochen and LTBH, I substituted the following DNServers after pinging each to make sure they respond fast...

ns1.berkeley.edu - 128.32.136.9 (Berkeley, CA, USA)
ns1.granitecanyon.com - 205.166.226.38

then executed ipconfig /flushdns
and checked for the presence of the 2 new DNS entries via ipconfig /all

the two servers work [I switched the order to try both]

...except when I try to open story.news.yahoo.com
or any other link that starts with story.news.yahoo.com

Now I think it is a Yahoo problem. [but other members here say they can open the Yahoo news links]
Comcast DNS and the 2 DNS listed above all reject the
story.news.yahoo.com link, i.e. they time out.

I sent my 3rd email to Yahoo, repeating all the info they requested, which I had already sent before.

Thank you for trying to help.
The failures occur whether I use IE or FF.

BTW, all security software runs came up with zilch.
There is no entry in the hosts file.
