(OT) Mang, Wow -- I looked at your question and looked
at my answer and realized that my reading skills have
'gone to the dogs'. I'll try to get it right this time.

SI has had a membership fee structure since March/April.
It was recently increased to $125 (lifetime). They do have
some extraordinary expenses -- T3 service, for example. I
rather imagine that SI is receiving some type of additional
subsidy; perhaps through personal funds of the owners'.

They have at various times considered selling advertising
space on the site; and seeking out venture capital. But
these are just some ideas they are kicking around. Currently
membership is about 30,000 but the number of 'paid' subscribers
is substantially less. Lurkers, btw, are estimated to outnumber
posters by about 3 or 4:1 -- I'd be interested to know how many
posters and lurkers a T3 line can accomodate. It could be like one
of those contests where you guess the number of jelly beans in the jar....
