If we "say" childhood is shortened, I'm not sure that's going to do much- so I'm not clear on how we shorten childhood. Childhood is really governed by the brain's development- and children's brains, as we know, assess risk differently than adults- which is probably a major factor in why children do the stupid things they do. There isn't much we can do about that- except supervise children more closely, which does work. I think eliminating summer breaks is a good idea for a variety of reasons, but girls get pregnant on dates, and after school, and on the weekends- so I'm not sure there is any evidence that summer breaks cause pregnancy. I'd be willing to bet more pregnancies occur during the school year, because school is such a social situation (however I do not recommend eliminating school as a "cure").
