Today I think I discovered a key reason why so many Jewish leaders are ardent Zionists.

A local conservative rabbi gave a sermon arguing that history shows that Jews are often in the greatest danger in societies where they are rich and wield great power. The example of ancient Babylon was brought up where a once rich and powerful Jewish community was expelled from that country.

So crazy as it may seem many Zionists apparently see Israel as a place where they will be welcome if they are forced out of America someday.
