I just finished reading through several hundred Datek thread messages and am now "up to date." By far, the most resounding echo, the most frequently recurring complaint, is Datek's customer service.

I have to be fair to Datek and say that not all of the complainees are as thorough, prepared and calmly diplomatic as Jack Zahran. Some complainers are somewhat overcome by fear and/or anger and come across as confused and difficult if not impossible to understand. Others just don't speak (write) English very well at all.

This thread is an ongoing drama. Will Datek meet the challenge and bring their customer service up to what it should be or will they somehow fold under the pressure and perhaps sell their system to another brokerage that has the missing ingredient of customer service but needs better technology?

I think Datek could solve a LOT of customer problems and reduce the amount of phone calls and emails they get, if they would simply provide CHECKWRITING privileges through some company such as Cortland, Kemper, etc etc.

Then, no calling or emailing to withdraw funds, just make sure you have the funds to cover it and write a check.

Say what negative things you want about Etrade, but I take great comfort in being able to simply write a check to withdraw from that brokerage account.

When Datek gets "up to speed" on customer service and has checkwriting, then I'll write a check on my Etrade account and send it via certified mail to Datek and try their technology for trading.

Drama to be continued. . . day by day.
